Pedagogy
Pedagogical activities include designing and directing the graduate program at Georgia Tech, from syllabi design to seminar series organization. Other activities include delivering the Vertical Integrated Project (VIP) in Robotic Musicianship, founding a global influential design competition, and integrating a special focus on AI Ethics into the curriculum.
Developed the first degree in music technology at Georgia Tech - The Masters of Science in Music Technology. Designed the syllabi for most originally-offered classes. Directed the graduate program from its inception in 2006 until 2021.
Designed the curriculum of one of the first Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) classes at Georgia Tech and have taught it since 2014. The VIP program is a transformative approach for enhancing higher education by engaging undergraduate and graduate students in ambitious, long-term, large-scale, multidisciplinary project teams that are led by faculty.
Founded the Guthman Musical Instrument Competition and directed the event for 10 years. The competition, which was named the "The Pulitzer of the New Instrument World” by the Guardian brings musical instrument inventors from around the world to interact with students, present their instruments, and compete for prizes.
Oversaw the academic mission of Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology including founding a seminar series that brings top speakers to present state-of-the-art research in music, generative art and technology.
AI Ethics has been a special curricular focus, emphasizing the importance of human agency, bias, diversity and accessibility. Other areas of interest include data copyright and consent, cultural misuse, public perception and presentation, and environmental impact. New efforts to involve students in collaboration with industry to promote ethical AI are currently undergoing.
